It was the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon that started the onslaught, coming against the Pharaohs with great intensity and pace which almost paid off. Michael Ngadau Ngadjui made the first impact within the opening 20 minutes having jumped highest to place a header towards the Egyptian post but was unfortunate to hit the crossbar. Vincent Aboubakar lashed on the rebound but sent it wide. A few minutes later, Andre Frank Angussa had an opportunity to put the home side ahead but sent it wide. Another chance provided itself for Ngadjui in the eighteen yard box but he was unable to shoot.

At the start of the second half, the Pharaohs came out better with the introduction of Trezeguet to help make runs from the flank. Mohammed Salah was gifted an opportunity to seal the game but his attempt to round the goal keeper Andrey Onana was aborted by the Cameroonian number one.

At the end of regulation time and extra time with no team rising up to the occasion, the match headed to panelty shootout. Cameroon inspirational Captain Vincent Aboubakar pulled one in but that was all the Indomitable Lions could offer as Gabaski kept the efforts of Harold Moukoudi and James Lea Siliki  out while Clinton N’jie shut off target to hand the Egyptians a safe passage to the grand finale of the biggest football fiesta in Africa.

The Pharaohs head to Olembe stadium without their Head Coach Carlos Queiroz who was given a red card for protesting what he thought was an elbow by a Cameroonian player against his.

This will be the first time the Pharaohs of Egypt will be heading to AFCON finals since 2010.
