As Egypt Battles Cameroon for a Place in the AFCON Grand Finale
Indomitable Lions of Cameroon celebrating a goal |
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have had an impressive outing so far in the competition. Being the host, they have had massive home support with a usual filled stadium of happy Cameroonians dancing to the tunes of their drums and shouting at the top of their voices. The team itself has been lucky, one thing that makes a team progress in a tournament is the presence of a quality striker. Vincent Aboubakar has been that quality striker in the Indomitable Lions fold scoring freely and pushing from all angles. The ex Porto man has single-handedly carried this Cameroonian side on his shoulders up to this point. But one thing going against them so far is that they have not squared up against a solid team with players of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah, Moses Simon, and Achraf Hakimi's calibre, players who can from the blues change the destiny of a game. The greatest opponent they have faced so far in the tournament is Burkina Faso who have little quality and collective fighting spirit with no single individual with a match changing capability.

The semi-final match against Egypt will be the first real world class test the Cameroonians will face in their quest to win the trophy on home soil and it will not come cheap.
The Egyptians have shown a great fighting spirit and have in their midst a hard fighting Mohammed Salah who is beginning to show some glimpses of his true self. They have been through a lot of challenges in this tournament having been in a group that paraded the Super Eagles of Nigeria to whom they lost. They have equally battled a strong Moroccan side and have shown significant improvement on their performances since the 1-0 loss to Nigeria. Battling the Cameroonians require a lot of strength and technique which will be the decider on Thursday at Olembe Stadium.

This will be the 11th African Cup of Nations encounter between Egypt and Cameroon since the inception of the competition with Egypt being on the favoured side of history having won three of their last four encounters against Cameroon. History is meant to be broken but only by those who are willing to do so.
Both teams have what it takes to make it to the grand finale to square off against Senegal on the 6th of February in Yaounde but that is if the big players come to the pitch on Thursday with their shooting boots on.
