The ex Leeds United player remains one of the most intriguing mavericks to have graced the premier league.
One of the heroes of Senegal that almost won the African cup of nations in the year 2000 and reached the quarter finals of the world cup in Japan/Korea 2002. But that was not the case during his sojourn in England which was tented by infamous acts.
On his 41st birthday today, we look at Diouf's spat with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard upon his arrival at the Merseyside for £10m from Lens in the summer of 2002.
To say that the pair do not see eye to eye is an understatement, they abhor each other despite sharing same dressings room for over three seasons.
According to Florent Sinama-Pongolleho who played as a striker for Liverpool between 2002 to 2003, the same time Diouf played there, opened up in an interview that Gerald and Diouf started their feud in a pre season match. "If younger people see this, they might think that this is how professionals behave at that level." He said.
"At half time, in the dressing room,Stevie G was all like, you have to pass the ball, you have to pass. And Diouf loses it.
"He couldn't speak English, his English was rubbish. They hated each other so much, you know what he did, Steven Gerrard arrives, he insults Diouf. hey you f**k.
"And Diouf couldn't answer, he grabs (former Liverpool boss) Gerard Houllier and say, tell him I will fu**k his mum."

Diouf's attitude has generated many controversies and condemnation from his colleagues in his playing days. He was accused of spitting at players and fans during his Anfield days and had once had a spat with Jamie Carragher who opined that he is one of the worst strikers in Liverpool's history having gone thirty games without a goal. He equally stated that he was called last in training.
In all these, it was his battles with Gerald that stood out in his days at Liverpool, a spat he reignited in 2017 when he said, Gerald is a strong character and I am a strong character. Stevie G was a very good footballer, people love him at Liverpool but he never did anything for his country.
"I am Mr. El Hadji Diouf, Mr. Senegal, he is Mr. Liverpool. Senegal is bigger than Liverpool, he should know that." He said.
Certainly, the Premier League will never forget El Hadji Diouf. Happy Birthday to Mr. Senegal.
