World's oldest footballer signs a new contract

Kazuyoshi Miura has put pen to paper at Yokohama FC just a year before he 54.

He is not known because of his great football artistry or his youthful appearance. He is the oldest footballer in the world and once overthrew Gary Lineker as Japanese football's most valuable footballer.

He was first drafted by Santos, a Brazilian football club in 1986 before moving to Croatia and then to Australia after a brief stay there, he found his way back to Japan in 1990, three years before the J-League kicked off.
Miura surprised everyone when he was named the leagues most valuable footballer ahead of Gary Lineker who is now in his sixties. Having retired from active football after playing for Nagoya Grampus Eight but Miura is still powering on, being only six years younger than the English man.

The veteran has register 221 goals in 763 matches while scoring 55 goals in 89 appearances for the Japan National team.

He helped the Japanese outfit come out of relegation but was restricted to just four topflight matches last season, a situation he is not happy about and vowed to work harder and help the team as much as possible in the new season.

He is playing in his 36th season for the club and is still the captain.
