How it went down in Anfield and how the players performed without Virgil Van Dijk

Liverpool started life after Virgil Van Dijk on a positive note having come from behind to seal a win against Sheffield United.
Sander Berge scored from a controversial panelty that gave Sheffield the lead in just 15 minutes of play, but parity was restored when Roberto Firmino scored a few minutes to halftime.

Diogo Jota's header in the hour mark gave Liverpool the lead and the needed three points.

Sadio Mane couldn't score but was very instrumental in the game with an assist to Diogo Jota and Firmino.

Here's a brief run down of how they performed.

Allison Becker: He brought more solidity back to the team and a couple of good saves

Alexander-Arnold: Not quite at his best, but still did well with searching crosses

Fabinho: Never a penalty, and didn’t really do much wrong in assured display
Gomez: Struggled to contain McBurnie’s power in air, but kept composed.

Robertson: Outstanding down the left, created so much and always a threat.

Henderson: Had more work to do in midfield two, and showed he was up to job

Wijnaldum: As uncomplicated as ever, controlled tempo of game with passing

Jota: Fine header to score, but didn’t get himself in game often enough

Firmino: A rare goal, only his second at Anfield this year, but improved

Mane: Created two goals, and always a massive handful for visitors

Salah: Goal ruled out by fractions, but still maintained Liverpool threat
