Who Laughs Last in Lisbon

It's been a different Champions League this season, no thanks to covid-19 pandemic. But that didn't take away the glamour and grace associated with the competition.

The unexpected happened, League 1 and Bundeslega outclassed the entire contenders to book a place in the grand finale of the most prestigious club football competition in Europe. It was amazing but to an extent not a surprise because alot of the big wigs in Spain and England were ailing, with the exception of Manchester City  and Juventus (the lone voice in Italy) that got bedeviled by that same ailment that has kept success away from them in that competition.

Sunday is the day to settle the scores between a German veteran and a French newbie. The odds are in favour of Bayern Munich because of the level of experience that group of players have gathered over the years in the likes of Robert Lewandoski who boosts of the highest number of goals scored in the Champions League this season, Thomas Müllar, David Alaba and a host of others who are lethal and currently, highly motivated.

The younger ones like Alphonso Davis, and Serge Gnabry have in recent times proven how devastating they can be against even the most formidable opponents as was demonstrated in the destruction of Barcelona and humbling of Lyon enroute the final in Lisbon. This puts them in a pole position confidance wise to carry the day, but this is football.

Paris Saint Germain in their own right is not a club to be written off so easily. Though as a group they have under-performed in the continental stage for far too long. But they have the calibre of players that can hurt any team. A team that boosts of Kylian Mbappé, Neymar Jr, Angel Di Maria and a host of them cannot be toyed with and this time around, they have proved it.

Having come this far for the first time in the history of the Club, it's obvious that the weight of expectations and desire could be too much to carry, but if they shoulder it well and come to the party against Bayern Munich on Sunday, then we have a spectacle to watch. The Germans are the favourites but the French, if they return to Lisbon with their shooting boots, then, they have a chance. Fingers crossed🤞
