Salah in Tears As Mane Runs Away with AFCON Trophy

It was an exchange of fireworks on Sunday as Senegal and Egypt battled for who becomes the Champion of Africa. Senegal kick started the action with Saliou Ciss who paced down through the left flank menacingly towards the Egyptians eighteen yard box and was chopped down by Mohamed Abdelmonem in the box resulting to an early penalty taken by Sadio Mane but was kept out by the impressive Egyptian second goal keeper, Abou Garbal aka Gabaski to keep the match open.

It was a game that pitched Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane against each other. Mane having had his chance saved in the opening seconds of the game, it took the Egyptian talisman half an hour to make his own impact.

He made a super jinking run through the right flank, dribbling past five defenders before sending in a poor shot which Edouard Mendy didnt have much issues keeping out. Salah came up again with a surprise effort from close range to force Mendy into another save to keep Senegal in the game.

The Lions of Teranga paced up and down the Pharaohs box, trying out different methods and techniques but the Egyptian defence line were equal to the task and the goal keeper Gabaski matched all the efforts seamlessly.

The efficient Gabaski kept out Bouyale Dias header and pulled off a fantastic save when he reacted to Bamba Dieng pile driver towards the dying minutes of the extra time to take the match to penalties.

It was a goalless draw at the end of extra time at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé leading to penalty shootout which saw Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohaned Lasheen miss from the spot for Egypt with only Bouna Sarr missing for Senegal.

Mane stepped up to seal the game, this time with a fantastic effort giving no chance to Salah to take the fifth for his country. Manes spot kicked hands Senegal their first ever African cup of nations trophy in Sixty years after narrowly losing to Algeria in 2019.
