Individual awards in football remains one of the best ways of recognizing players who distinguished themselves each year. But it is not free from controversies.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo alongside Robert Lewandoski were all included in the FIFA WORLD BEST XI in a ceremony where Lewandoski emerged as the FIFA BEST male footballer of the year excluding Mohammed Salah and Edouard Mendy despite the former being one of the final three contenders for the award and the later being the winner of FIFA BEST male goalkeeper of the year award.

This exclusion have left Many football lovers in awe and utmost astonishment. They wonder how the best goal keeper of the year is not a part of the world best eleven.


Mohammed Salah who has 23 goals in 26 appearances this season, second only to Lewandoski is missing in a line up of players that cannot tire his boots.

The Egyptian is widely seen as the best footballer in the world at the moment but couldn’t find his way to the elite world XI at the ceremony in Zurich Switzerland. To many, there is more to it than meets the eye.

It was an occasion that saw Ronaldo receive a special award for being the player with the highest number of international goals and Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea, the best Manger of the year.

The full list is Gianluigi Donnarumma, David Alaba, Ruben Dias, Leonardo Bonucci, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Kevin De Bruyne,Erling Haaland, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandoski and Lionel Messi.
