Drama in Afcon as Defender turns to goalkeeper

Badra Ali Sangare dived awkwardly.

It was drama yesterday in the on going African cup of nations as Ivorian defender Segie Aurier took up goal keeping duties after the goal keeper Badra Ali Sangare got injured following an error that gifted Sierra Leone an equalizer against the West African giants.

Sangare dived to catch a soft ball that was approaching his goal post but miscalculated his landing which led to him dropping the ball unintentionally for Steve Caulker who recently switched nationality from England to Sierra Leone to graceful grab the ball and put it through for Alhaji Kamara to tap into an open net  in the 92nd minute of the match after surviving an initial slip.

Sangare was eventually unable to continue the match having awkwardly hit his head and shoulders on the tuff and was stretched off the pitch paving the way for the ex- Tottenham Hotspur defender to pick up the gloves. He was lucky, his stay in-between the sticks was short lived as the match was already coming to an end.

As for the Randers of Sierra Leone, this caused great jubilation among them with Alhaji Kamara recreating the Bafetimbi Gomis crawling celebration.

This is the second draw for the Randers after giving a good account of themselves against the under performing Algerians in their first group match.

They now look forward to the game against Equatorial Guinea knowing full well that a win against them gives them qualification from the group.

As for the Ivorians, they now wait on Sangare to return to fitness before the game against Algeria on Thursday to decide their fate.
